Job Classification: Firefighter/Paramedic

The Pinellas Park Fire Department is currently hiring for

Firefighter/Paramedic positions.  

The department requires the completion of the candidate's PHQ. 

A current NTN CPAT and FireTEAM test are required for this position.  

Pay Information: $59,893 - $87,776 annually

Additional pay not included in base annual pay:

  • Holiday Pay – Additional 1.5 hours pay per hour worked on holidays
  • Pass-on-Pay $650 annually
  • Associate Degree: $600 annually
  • Bachelor’s Degree: $1,320.00 annually
  • Specialty Team Incentives: (if assigned)
  • Technical Rescue: $910.00 annually
  • Hazmat: $910.00 annually
  • SWAT: $910.00 annually
  • FTO: $910.00 annually
  • Car Seat Technician: $260 annually

Benefits Information:

  • 24/48 schedule with a Kelly Day every 6 weeks
  • 144 hours of sick leave annually (unused time paid out annually at 50%)

Firefighters participate fully in the City's retirement program which includes:

Job Requirements

  • Age: 18

  • Valid FLORIDA Driver's License: Yes
  • Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
  • Vision: 1. 1. Far visual acuity: Far visual acuity shall be at least 20/30 binocular corrected with contact lenses or eyeglasses. Far visual acuity uncorrected shall be at least 20/100 binoculars for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles. Successful long-term soft contact lens wearers shall not be subject to the uncorrected criterion.
    • 2. Peripheral vision: Visual field performance without correction shall be 140 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye.
    • 3. Required to pass the Titmus II Color Vision test (ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green).
    • 4. Any recent or former history of ophthalmic surgery will require a medical clearance from the City of Pinellas Park’s medical provider.
    • 5. Any other eye condition that results in a person not being able to perform the essential job functions of a Firefighter, NFPA 1582.

 

Necessary Certifications:

  • Certified State of Florida Firefighter II
  • Certified State of Florida as a Paramedic
  • Paramedics must also be certified in ACLS, ITLS, or PHTLS, and CPR.

  • Current certifications in ACLS and BLS (CPR)
  • All Paramedics will have to work toward Pinellas County Certification:
    • This includes the addition of EPC and PHTLS certifications
       

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: Must not have any felony convictions within the last 4 years. Conviction or plea of nolo contendere of a felony, or conviction of a misdemeanor directly related to the position of a firefighter, shall exclude an applicant from employment for a period of four (4) years after the expiration of sentence or final release by the Parole Commission unless the applicant, prior to the expiration of the four (4) year period, has received a full pardon or has had his or her civil rights restored. Where the sentence of an applicant is suspended or adjudication is withheld and a period of probation is imposed, the applicant must have been released from probation before being eligible for employment. See F.S. 112.011(2)(b) and F.S. 633.34(2).

Drug Use Disqualifiers: Pre-employment testing is required.

Employment Disqualifiers: Failure of any of the following pre-employment tests

  • Psychological profile
  • Driving records check
  • Physical examination, including drug screening
  • Background check

Additional Disqualifiers: The applicant must be a nonuser of tobacco products for at least one year prior to the date of application and throughout their employment with this department. Must be able to wear a respirator as prescribed by NFPA 1500 standards and meet the physical requirements of NFPA 1582.
