The Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission is seeking an accomplished, forward-thinking leader to serve as Director of the Delaware State Fire School. This executive-level role oversees all operations, training programs, personnel, facilities, and strategic direction of the statewide Fire School system. The director reports directly to the Commission.
The Director functions under the authority of the State Fire Prevention Commission and is responsible for delivering high-quality fire, rescue, and EMS education that meets nationally recognized standards such as NFPA, Pro Board, and IFSAC. This position manages daily operations, supervises Training Administrators and staff, ensures safety and compliance, oversees budgeting and financial reporting, and maintains all Fire School facilities and regional training centers.
Ideal candidates bring proven leadership experience, strong administrative and budgeting skills, and a deep understanding of emergency services training. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) is required, along with demonstrated expertise in program management, human resources, policy development, and stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of Delaware’s Fire & EMS system—or comparable systems—is essential. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, Fire Instructor II certification, and executive-level public safety experience.
