The Cambria Community Services District is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for a potential Fire Engineer vacancy. Applications will be reviewed on a continuous basis, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

About the Position

Under general supervision of a Fire Captain or Company Officer, a Fire Engineer performs all duties of a firefighter while also driving, operating, and maintaining all types of fire apparatus. As part of a coastal response fire department, the Fire Engineer is also expected to respond to ocean- and surf-related emergencies, including swimmer rescues, watercraft incidents, and shoreline medical calls. This position builds upon the Firefighter role by adding primary responsibility for emergency vehicle operation (e.g. fire engines, water tenders) and pump operations at fire scenes. Fire Engineers participate in all aspects of fire department operations, including emergency response, equipment readiness, training, fire prevention, and public education. They ensure apparatus and crews are prepared for response and may assume leadership roles when necessary to support the department’s mission.
